Welcome to the Guam Judo blog. As a developing sport, judo has had a long history on the island. Currently, there is only one club in Guam recognized by the Guam National Olympic Committee and the Oceania Judo Union. The Guam Judo Federation (d.b.a. Marianas Judo Association), a non-profit organization, is mainly administered and instructed by Ricardo Blas, Sr. and Melicia Paulino, both IJF certified.
Classes include those for adults and kids: adult classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and kids classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. On Saturdays, a class for all ages is held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
In addition, the club hosts FREE annual summer youth camps for ages 6 to 17. Follow us on facebook here for the lastest info on our annual summer youth camps.
Our club also has yearly exchanges with judo organizations in Japan, such as the Kodokan and Tokai University. Every year a junior team is sent to the Kodokan for training. We also send our competitors for pre-tournament training with Tokai University. Alternately, Tokai University sends coaches and teams to Guam to assist with development and training.
For competitions, teams are normally sent to events in Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Macau, the U.S., as well as the East Asian Games, Pacific Games, Oceania Judo Cup, World Cup, and more.
